Find information about Redlands Community College mineral engineering, registering for degree programs, and taking free tests online. Engineering is one of the fastest-growing job areas, and for good reason. As the consumer electronics industry expands, engineers are increasingly in demand. If you complete the mineral engineering program, for example, there are a variety of concentrations that may appeal to you such as petroleum engineering, mineral exploration, or alternative energy. Further, due to advances in mining engineering technology, there is a growing shortage of mineral engineering graduates, and of skilled technical engineers in general. Please use the form above to request admissions info for Redlands Community College.

Mining techniques have dramatically transformed over many years, with technological advances improving efficiency and safety. In the discovery stage of mineral exploration, mining engineers work closely with geologists to identify minerals and assess reserve quantities. Mineral engineers may then drill core samples and conduct surface surveys, searching for specific compounds and ores. Unless mineral engineering is done on public lands, the property owners may play a significant role in mining exploration.

Generally, mining is either done from the surface or underground. Surface mining requires the stripping of surface vegetation, dirt, and if necessary, layers of bedrock in order to reach buried ore deposits. Additionally, explosives may be called for in order to facilitate breakage. Hard minerals such as limestone, sand, gravel, and slate are generally quarried into a series of benches. Strip mining, on the other hand, is more appropriate for softer minerals such as clays and phosphate. In-situ mining can be done from the surface using dissolving agents, retrieving the ore via pumps. Finally, hydraulic jets may be utilized to wash away the overburden or to clear out the ore itself.

Architecture Programs

Schools of architecture are accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). Further, state licensing requirements can be found at the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). In addition, architectural registration boards require architecture graduates to complete a lengthy paid internship, gaining 3 years of experience, before they may sit for the Architect Registration Examination.

Interns in architectural firms may help design part of a project, or help prepare architectural documents and drawings, build models, and prepare construction drawings on CADD. Interns may also research building codes and write specifications for building materials. Licensed architects must go on to edit the documents that interns produce, finalize plans, and then sign and seal the documents.

Online Tests - Free Practice!

Engineering Job Listings

The Fundamentals of Engineering exam should be taken immediately after earning a bachelors degree from an ABET-accredited program. Engineers who pass this exam are called engineers in training (EIT), or engineer interns. After meeting work experience requirements, engineer interns can attempt a second certifying exam, called the Principles and Practice of Engineering Exam. Thereafter, acquisition of a professional engineering license enables management of junior engineers, the ability to sign off on engineering projects, and provide services directly to the public. Wages vary by employer and location. Aside from salary, most engineering jobs include excellent benefits, as well as retirement plans.
