Information about Arkansas Northeastern College mineral engineering, registering for elective courses, and taking free practice exams online. Given the breadth of engineering specialties, you may find your niche in the engineering field. Technical training is only the first step towards a rewarding career. If you complete the mineral engineering program, for example, there are a variety of concentrations that may appeal to you such as petroleum engineering, mineral exploration, or alternative energy. Further, due to advances in mining engineering technology, there is a growing shortage of mineral engineering graduates, and of skilled technical engineers in general. Please use the form above to request admissions info for Arkansas Northeastern College.
Mining techniques have dramatically transformed over many years, with technological advances improving efficiency and safety. In the discovery stage of mineral exploration, mining engineers work closely with geologists to identify minerals and assess reserve quantities. Mineral engineers may then drill core samples and conduct surface surveys, searching for specific compounds and ores. Unless mineral engineering is done on public lands, the property owners may play a significant role in mining exploration.
Generally, mining is either done from the surface or underground. Surface mining requires the stripping of surface vegetation, dirt, and if necessary, layers of bedrock in order to reach buried ore deposits. Additionally, explosives may be called for in order to facilitate breakage. Hard minerals such as limestone, sand, gravel, and slate are generally quarried into a series of benches. Strip mining, on the other hand, is more appropriate for softer minerals such as clays and phosphate. In-situ mining can be done from the surface using dissolving agents, retrieving the ore via pumps. Finally, hydraulic jets may be utilized to wash away the overburden or to clear out the ore itself.

Environmental Reclamation
The following technologies are used to clean up contaminated sites during enviromental reclamation work: Gas Chromatography (GC) is the most widely used chromatographic technique for environmental analyses, and is used onsite in field investigations and by offsite reference laboratories. Immunoassay technologies use antibodies to identify and quantify organic compounds and a limited number of metallic analytes. This technique is used widely for environmental field analysis because the antibodies can be highly specific to the target compounds. Mass Spectrometry is an established analytical technique that identifies organic compounds by measuring the mass of the compound's molecule. Although mass spectrometry can be used for the analysis of metals, non-metallic elements and radionuclides, it is most generally used for organic analysis as a field analytical technique.Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is a geophysical method that has been developed for shallow, high-resolution, subsurface investigations of the earth. GPR uses high frequency pulsed electromagnetic waves to acquire subsurface information. Magnetics for Environmental Applications are used to locate subsurface iron, nickel, cobalt and their alloys which are typically referred to as ferrous materials. The technology has been widely used for quickly locating buried or subsurface cultural ferrous objects that could pose a potential threat to the environment or by assisting remediation efforts.

Engineering Job Listings
The Fundamentals of Engineering exam should be taken immediately after earning a bachelors degree from an ABET-accredited program. Engineers who pass this exam are called engineers in training (EIT), or engineer interns. After meeting work experience requirements, engineer interns can attempt a second certifying exam, called the Principles and Practice of Engineering Exam. Thereafter, acquisition of a professional engineering license enables management of junior engineers, the ability to sign off on engineering projects, and provide services directly to the public. Wages vary by employer and location. Aside from salary, most engineering jobs include excellent benefits, as well as retirement plans.Job listings below are updated hourly: | Starting Salary (up to) | 10 Year Salary (up to) |
